In conjunction with vehicle patrols, MTSU Public Safety Department frequently use bicycle patrols, which allows bike officers quick and easy access to campus locations in shorter response times, normally not easily accessible via patrol vehicles.

Additionally, bicycle patrol allows officers to interact and to become more personable with students, faculty and staff, while maintaining a high level of police visibility on campus.

MTSU bike patrol has proven to be effective during sporting and outside events which the university hosts year round. Moreover, bicycle patrol enhances the department’s community oriented policing and has shown to be cost-effective and environmentally sound. Throughout the United States , most police agencies are turning to bike patrol as a big part of their crime prevention methods.
