Crime Alert - March 17, 2008

On March 17, 2008 at approximately 2:45 A.M. a female MTSU student was robbed near Sims Hall when an unidentified male approached her, pointed a dark colored handgun at her, and asked for her purse and her cell phone. The victim handed over the items, and the suspect left the area in a dark colored four-door sedan. The suspect was described as a black male approximately 6’0” tall, slender build with a round face, wearing a white ball cap, a black sweatshirt, and blue jeans.

On March 18, 2008, MTSU Police identified a possible suspect vehicle in the armed robbery case that occurred on campus during the early morning hours of March 17th. The suspect vehicle is believed to be a dark gray colored 2003 Dodge Neon. At least two suspects (and possibly a third person) were apparently involved in the incident. After the robbery the suspects used or attempted to use the victim’s credit card in a number of locations around or within the city of Murfreesboro including retail stores, convenience stores, and restaurants.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the MTSU Police Department at 615-898-2424 or Crime Stoppers at 615-893-7867. Crime Stoppers offers reward money for tips that lead to arrests, and you can remain anonymous.

Extra precautions you should take:

·         Do not walk alone, especially at night.

·         Stay away from dark, poorly-lighted areas, especially buildings, parking lots, bushes, hedges, and alleys.

·         Do not walk with your head down. Walk confidently and watch around you at all times.

·         Never talk to strangers. Never accept rides from a stranger or mere acquaintance. Always inform another person about your destination and expected time of return. This could save your life.
