STUDENT PATROL  

MIDDLE TENNESSEE STATE UNIVERSITY PUBLIC SAFETY
RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The Student Patrol Officer is a non-commissioned and non-sworn officer of the department whose primary responsibility is to act as an additional set of "eyes and ears" on the main campus. This mission will be accomplished through evening foot patrol. Other responsibilities are building security, escorts upon request, and assisting commissioned personnel with occasional assignments during special events on campus.
Alumni of our student patrol officers can be found throughout the country employed at all levels of law enforcement.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen 

  • Must be a High School graduate or possess its equivalency 

  • Must not possess any criminal record 

  • Not have been released or discharged under any other than honorable discharge from any office of the armed forces of the United States 

  • Candidates must be Middle Tennessee State University students enrolled in at least nine semester hours during each semester, with the exception of the summer terms. 

  • Student Patrol Officers shall be enrolled in at least one class during the summer session. 

  • Applicants who are considered for employment will have their fingerprints taken by MTSU Public Safety, have them reviewed and filed by the TBI and FBI and must not have been convicted of any criminal violations. 

  • Applicants must pass a background investigation and misstatement of facts on an application of employment may be grounds for immediate dismissal upon discovery. 

  • Upon employment, each student patrol officer shall be issued a copy of the departmental General Orders pertaining to student patrol.

  • Receipt of the General Orders shall constitute agreement to comply with regulations therein.  Hardcopy is available for review. 

  • Candidates must be willing to work a minimum of 18 hours (3 evenings) per week including some holidays and weekends as the need arises.

Any students interested should stop by Public Safety and fill out an application. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply.
