TRAINING DIVISION

The MTSU Public Safety Training Division is charged with maintaining state mandated and departmental in-service training for sworn officers (set forth by Tennessee Peace Officers Standards of Training). This training includes sessions such as: Use of Force, Rape Crisis, Search and Seizure, Legal Updates, Cultural Diversity, Law Enforcement Ethics, Community Policing, Child Sexual Abuse, SSGT, and the like. Along with a mandatory 40 hour in-service, officers receive additional training as well. Specialized schools are also utilized to better prepare officers in their duties. Specialized schools include but are not limited to: Criminal Investigations, DUI Enforcement, Domestic Violence/Child Sexual Abuse, Traffic Accident Investigation, Victim Assistance, Police Bike Patrol and such.

MTSU Public Safety maintains a close working relationship with the primary state law enforcement training academy located in Donelson , Tennessee as well as other state approved academies.  This helps to insure that our officers receive the most up-to-date training and information available in today’s rapidly changing society.

MTSU Public Safety has a training center to accommodate all in-service training as well as other sponsored specialized schools. This helps us to host various specialized trainings each year which serves not only our department but numerous other law enforcement agencies in Tennessee and surrounding states.
