Accounting Connections

Accounting Connections introduces students to information about the accounting profession, internship opportunities, and MTSU department of accounting faculty.  The organization is especially targeted to students currently enrolled in Accounting Principles I and II but is open to all MTSU students.  The organization meets once a month for lunch.  The faculty advisor is Monica Davis.

Beta Alpha Psi (BAP)

Beta Alpha Psi introduces students to accounting professionals from CPA firms, industry, and government. Activities include:

  • weekly meetings with professional speakers,
  • community service projects (the fraternity regularly works with the National Park Service ), and
  • site visits to accounting firms and other businesses.

The fraternity hosts an annual “Meet the Firms” event that affords all accounting majors the opportunity to meet with recruiters in a casual setting. This event is followed by the annual golf tournament, “Beat the Firms,” which is open to professionals, faculty, and fraternity members. Chapter members have the opportunity to attend regional and national Beta Alpha Psi meetings. Our chapter has earned the Superior Chapter designation seven years in a row. Our student competition teams have placed in the top three in each of the past six years.  The fraternity is open to Accounting majors with an overall GPA and accounting GPA of 3.0 or higher. The faculty advisor is Dr. Brandon Vagner.

 Institute of Management Accountants (IMA)

The Institute of Management Accountants has an active chapter on the campus of MTSU. The chapter is supervised by Dr. Tammy Bahmanziari.  This group holds meetings on select Mondays which feature outside speakers from different areas of accounting. The chapter also meets once a semester with the Nashville IMA chapter, where students have an opportunity to meet with professionals attending the meeting as well as to hear speakers. The chapter also provides opportunities to tour businesses on a regular basis.  Previous tours have included the Dell and Aladdin Manufacturing facilities in Nashville.  The faculty advisor is Dr. Tammy Bahmanziari.

Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA)

The purpose of the Institute of Internal Auditors Student Chapter is to provide undergraduate and graduate students with an educational and social organization that promotes internal auditing as a career objective. Members will gain an understanding of the tasks performed by internal auditors and the certifications valued by the internal auditing profession. This group holds meetings on select Mondays which frequently feature outside speakers. Members are invited to attend monthly Nashville IIA Chapter meetings free of charge where they will have the opportunity to hear speakers and network with practitioners. The faculty advisor is Dr. Sarah Garven.

National Association of Black Accountants, Inc. (NABA)

NABA is open to all students interested in bridging the opportunity gap for people of color in Accounting, Finance and Business. The mission of NABA, Inc. is to address the professional needs of its members and to build leaders that shape the future of the accounting and finance profession with an unfaltering commitment to inspire the same in their successors.  The faculty advisor is Dr. Kelly Williams.
