Communication Minor

The minor in Communication will provide a 15-credit, intensive study of communication concepts and ideas.  Since most of the courses in the minor will be part of MTSU's Experiential Learning Program, the minor is an excellent choice for students who want to graduate with the EXL designation.

The 15-hour minor in Communication is very flexible and is designed to increase the student's ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds in the workplace and professional settings.

Required Course (3 hours)

 

  • COMM 2100 - Introduction to Human Communication

    3 credit hours

    Introductory course provides a broad overview of communication processes, theories, research, and career options. ​Includes foundational terminology and principles associated with the field of human communication as applied in various contexts including interpersonal, organizational, rhetorical, and intercultural settings.​

Electives (12 hours)

  • In addition to the required course, students will take 12 hours of COMM courses (excluding COMM 2200).

NOTE: Students may take 3 hours of COMM 4260 or 3 hours of  COMM 4900 but not both. Also, no more than 3 hours of COMM 4800 may be taken. COMM 2200 may not count toward Communication Studies minor requirements.
