EXL Opportunities
There are many EXL opportunities at MTSU within a student's major, minor, general education or elective courses. Many departments offer applied experience, service learning, creative activity courses or internships for their majors. Check out just a few examples of EXL activities across campus. Types of EXL Courses:
Applied Experience
Applied learning courses offers practical application of discipline related knowledge
through projects with businesses and non-profit organizations.
Service Learning
Service-learning is a student centered teaching method that involves academic instruction
in partnership with MTSU and the larger community. The primary focus of service-learning
is to enhance critical and reflective thinking and civic responsibility. Service-learning
programs involve students in organized community partnerships that address local needs
while developing their academic skills and sense of civic responsibility and community.
Creative Activity
Creative activity courses consist of a project that is driven by the student's imagination,
talents, and/or skills that result in a tangible outcome such as works rendered in
aural, visual, physical, written word, electronic media, and/or other forms. Performance
and exhibition of creative works may also be included.
Study Abroad As an undergraduate or graduate student, now is the time to take advantage of these opportunities as there will never be an easier, more cost-effective time to travel, while also receiving academic credit toward your degree. Teacher Education
Teacher education courses are applied learning courses designed specifically for teacher
education programs.
Lab Course
Experiential learning lab courses are applied learning courses where students connect
lab acitvities with real world application/experience.
Internship/Co-op Education
Internship courses and cooperative education provides participating students with a unique opportunity to gain real world experience while pursuing a degree. integrates classroom studies with supervised work assignments at actual job sites. While working in a position related to their academic program of study, students are able to develop a better understanding of some of the day-to-day issues and applications.
