The following list includes some of the many ways that you, as a student, can increase your research training in psychology:

Take advantage of one of these research courses for credit:

• PSY 3990 (Independent Research) -- This course usually involves working with a faculty member on an existing research project. Most faculty who offer 3990 sections encourage or require their students to present their research at a conference. This course can be taken for 1-3 credits and can be taken multiple times; up to 6 hours of PSY3990 can count as elective hours in the major. Contact individual faculty members if you are interested in getting involved in research. (Student Research Directory)
• PSY 4080 (Advanced Research Methods) -- This course is open to all students who have earned at least a B- in PSY3020, PSY4070, and PSY3070. It is offered most spring semesters.
• PSY 4000 (Psychology Seminar) -- This course can be taken as a literature review course, working with an individual faculty member. Contact individual faculty members if you think you might want to do a literature review or directed readings course.
• UH4900 & UH 4950 (Honors Thesis Tutorial and Independent Research)--Honors eligible students can complete an honors independent research project. To learn more, visit the Honors College page or https://mtsu.edu/honors/thesis.php.

Apply for a URECA grant through the Undergraduate Research Center.

Present your research at a local, regional, or national conference

• Middle Tennessee Psychological Association (our major local conference meets during the Spring at MTSU)
• CEPO/Psi Chi Undergraduate poster session of SEPA: held every year at a different location in the spring, this poster session is for undergraduate researchers who want to get experience presenting a research poster at a conference.

• Scholars Week: This is a week long event in which students are able to present their research with others at MTSU.  

Submit your research manuscripts to an undergraduate research journal

• Psi Chi Journal of Psychological Research (a national, fully reviewed, quarterly journal dedicated to the publication of undergraduate, graduate, and faculty research.)
